Community Meeting and Workshop – Potential Alternative Energy Service to SCE
Claremont residents are invited to attend a community meeting and a workshop regarding a possible alternative energy service to SCE. Currently, the City is in the evaluation process to consider participation, and the City is striving to update the community about this program and receive feedback about the desirability of participation. The item will be considered by the Community and Human Services Commission on Wednesday, July 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the Padua Room at the Alexander Hughes Center (1700 Danbury Road). Sustainable Claremont will be hosting a Community Dialogue on this topic on Monday, July 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Pomona College, Hahn Building, Room 101 (420 Harvard Ave). Please join us to learn more about this program and provide your thoughts and preferences about participation.
The alternative energy service is being provided by Los Angeles County, which has formed a Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program in coordination with other jurisdictions. A CCA program is a legal structure that allows cities and counties to combine the buying power of individual electricity customers within their jurisdictions to secure alternative energy supply contracts on a community-wide basis. If the City were to participate in the program, the CCA would become an alternative choice to SCE as the energy provider for the City of Claremont.
