Protecting Yourself from Mosquitoes

Post Date:09/27/2017

Mosquitoes are not only annoying, they can spread dangerous and sometimes deadly infections like the West Nile and Zika virus. Los Angeles County health officials launched a new campaign in an effort to boost awareness for West Nile virus, which has claimed seven lives in the area so far this year. The campaign, "It's Not Just a Bite," is meant to educate people about the virus' potentially deadly implications. It is critical that residents remove all standing water on their property to prevent mosquito production. Mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnant water such as neglected pools, buckets, miscellaneous containers, puddles, and ponds. Tip and toss containers that hold water where mosquitoes can lay their eggs. Residents can protect themselves from mosquito bites by using mosquito repellent, wearing a long sleeve shirt and long pants when outdoors, and ensuring windows and doors are properly screened to keep mosquitoes out.
