Pomona College Art Museum Construction
Beginning Thursday, November 2, chain link security and safety fencing will be installed around the construction site for the new Pomona College Museum of Art (PCMA). Fencing will be placed along the west side of College Avenue, the south side of Bonita Avenue, the east side of the library parking lot, and the north side of Second Street. The sidewalk on Bonita Avenue, Second Street, and College Avenue next to the project will be closed for public safety. Signage will be placed for pedestrian detours.
City staff met with Pomona College and the contractor (Hathaway Dinwiddie) this week for kickoff and pre-construction meetings for the project. The meetings were designed to coordinate and outline the expectations of the City with regard to the Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Program (MMRP), and all City requirements for permits and approvals. Staff from the City, Pomona College, and the contractor will meet weekly or bi-monthly to ensure a coordinated effort continues through all phases of this 18-20 month construction process. The City Arborist will ensure that the trees on the job site are protected throughout the process, including the creation of “tree protection zones” with orange fencing where special care and monitoring will occur.
