The City of Claremont is strongly committed to expanding the use of solar energy in Claremont in order to create local jobs, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and increase community resilience. Goal 1.1 of the Claremont Sustainable City Plan calls for reducing the use of nonrenewable energy by both City government and the community through the promotion of energy efficiency and conservation technologies and practices. This includes the promotion of local installation of solar energy systems.
In the second ever Solar Friendly Communities Awards, hosted by SolSmart and the U.S. Department of Energy, The City was awarded the highest designation: Gold. The award was given for making solar easily accessible, reducing soft costs, and streamlining permitting processes associated with residential solar installations.
