Police Commission Creates Ad Hoc Committees

At the July 9, 2020, Police Commission meeting, Commissioners discussed developing ad hoc committees to effectively engage with the community to address current areas of concerns, such as homeless and mental health related calls for service, concerns of racial profiling, and officer wellness and training.

As such, the following ad hoc committees were formed: Use of Force Ad Hoc Committee and the Community Engagement Outreach Ad Hoc Committee. The existing Citizen Complaint Process Ad Hoc Committee will revisit the Police Department complaint process to discuss the option of online complaint submittals. The assignments that were made by the Chair are as follows:

Community Outreach Efforts

Since the July 9th meeting, the Community Engagement Outreach Ad Hoc Committee has met with multiple faith-based organizations and community groups such as Baha’i Church in Claremont, Claremont Change, and Claremont Disarm Hate. They currently have at least eight additional outreach events anticipated over the next several weeks to obtain community input regarding concerns related to the Police Department and the Claremont community as a whole.

As the Community Engagement Outreach Ad Hoc Committee gathers additional information from the community, the Police Commission will then discuss and develop more focused ad hoc committees to specifically address the concerns expressed at its next scheduled meeting on September 3, 2020.

We encourage you to be a part of the conversation. If you or your organization would like to be participate in the dialogue, please contact a Police Commissioner via email as provided above.
