The Architectural Commission will review the Architectural Design and Site Plan for the construction of a freestanding shade structure (Forest Pavilion), a restroom/support building, and installation of interpretive native landscaping at the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Gardens – 1500 North College Avenue. Notice of Public Hearing to Consider Adoption of an Ordinance Amending Title 15 of the Claremont Municipal Code related to Claremont's Building Codes

The City of Claremont will hold a public hearing to consider adoption of an ordinance amending Title 15 of the Claremont Municipal Code related to Claremont’s Building Codes. The proposed ordinance will adopt the 2019 California Building Codes with certain amendments necessary to meet local conditions. The proposed ordinance will continue Claremont’s local amendments. All interested persons are invited to appear and to be heard at the public hearing. The public hearing will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, beginning at 7 p.m., in the Council Chamber, located at 225 West Second Street, Claremont.

Notice of Preparation of an Environmental Impact Report - Claremont Village South Specific Plan

This is the formal start of the EIR process and includes notice of the time period for providing initial comments regarding information that should be considered by the City’s environmental consultant as they review the potential impacts of the project or project alternatives. The primary purpose of the NOP is to solicit comments by the end of the initial comment period (September 3, 2019). The City’s Environmental Consultant held an informational meeting to provide information regarding VSSP and EIR process and to receive comments regarding the scope and content of the environmental analysis. The public meeting was held on Monday, July 29, 2019 at 6:30 pm in the City Council Chambers.  Attendance at the meeting was not required in order to provide comments during the initial comment period. 

NOP Review and Comment Period: The NOP review and comment period is from Monday, July 22, 2019, through Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Due to the time limits mandated by State law, please send your written response at the earliest possible date but not later than 30 days after receipt of this NOP. In your response, please include the name of a contact person in your agency.

On Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 7:00 p.m., the Architectural Commission reviewed a request for a two-year extension of the approved plans for the 96-unit Colby Circle townhomes project located within the Old School House/Claremont Inn Specific Plan. The Commission will then conduct a preliminary review of proposed modifications to the approved plans for the project. The meeting will be held in the City Council Chamber, located at 225 W. Second Street, Claremont.

Notice of Public Hearing - Code Amendment pertaining to Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)

The City of Claremont held a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the Claremont Municipal Code (CMC) pertaining to Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). The proposed Code Amendment responds to changes in State laws that aim to facilitate the increased production of ADUs. The Planning Commission held a public hearing to consider the proposed amendment on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, 225 W. Second Street, Claremont.

The City Council held a public hearing on Final Tract Map #73078 on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, located at 225 W. Second Street, Claremont. Claremont Condo Development L.P., is requesting City Council approval of the Final Tract Map #73078 to subdivide 17 acres of the approximately 21-acre property located at 415–555 W. Foothill Boulevard into four (4) lots.

Planning Commission Review of Draft Four-Year Housing Element Update

The Planning Commission reviewed a draft of the City’s Four-Year Housing Element Update for the 5th Cycle (2013-2021) planning period. The meeting was held on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, located at 225 W. Second Street, Claremont. The draft update includes updated population and housing data, revised housing needs assessment and strategies for development of affordable housing, review of past accomplishments of the City’s housing programs, and updated housing programs for the planning period 2013-2021.

Community Information Meeting - The Commons Project

A new housing development is proposed on the northwest corner of Monte Vista Avenue and Foothill Boulevard Project, called The Commons. It is a proposed mixed-use community consisting of up to 27 single family homes, 20 townhomes, and 10 flat-style units above 5,000 square fee of retail. The proposal also includes over an acre of open space. The City hosted a Community Information Meeting regarding this project on Monday, June 17, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the City Yard Conference Room, 1616 Monte Vista Avenue, Claremont.

Notice of Public Hearing - Proposed Increase in City User Fees

The Claremont City Council held a public hearing on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council chamber, 225 W. 2nd St. to receive comment or protests regarding the proposed increase in City user fees including, but not limited to Planning and Building fees, Police Impound fees, and Human Services Park Permit fees to cover the cost of providing City services to the community.

Notice of Special Event Permit - Earth Day Celebration (April 14, 2019) 

Sustainable Claremont, in association with the City of Claremont, hosted the annual Claremont Earth Day Celebration and Street Fair on Sunday, April 14, 2019. The event was held between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. with street closures planned to commence as early as 5:00 a.m. and end as late as 3:00 p.m. The event was located along Second Street within the Claremont Village from Oberlin Avenue to Yale Avenue with north/south streets such as Oberlin Avenue, Indian Hill Boulevard, and Yale Avenue remaining open for vehicular access.The event included food trucks, live entertainment, activities, and approximately 80 exhibitor and vendor booths.

Urgency Ordinance to Readopt and Reaffirm Marijuana Regulations

The City Council held a public hearing on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 7 p.m. in the Claremont City Council Chamber, 225 W. Second Street, Claremont, to consider adoption of an urgency ordinance reaffirming, readopting, and extending regulations contained in Claremont Municipal Code Section 9.72; and introduction of a regular ordinance reaffirming, readopting, and extending those regulations without a sunset clause.

Districting Public Hearing

The City of Claremont is considering transitioning from at-large elections to by-district elections and wants the community's help drafting district boundaries. The City's demographer presented the draft maps submitted by the community and the City Council accepted public comment. Public hearings were held at a Special City Council Meeting on Monday, February 4, 2019 and at a City Council Meeting on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 6:30 p.m.

Proposed Community Development Block Grant Program Budget

A public hearing was held on January 22, 2019 at 7 p.m. in the Claremont City Council Chamber, 225 W. Second Street, Claremont, before the Claremont City Council to review the proposed budget for use of the City’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for Fiscal Year 2019-2020.  Any person wishing to be heard on this matter is invited to attend this public hearing and speak.

Claremont College Lot Reconfiguration

The Claremont Colleges, Inc., and Pomona College requested the approval of Tentative Parcel Map 82314 to allow the reconfiguration of thirteen parcels into four parcels in order to create clearly defined lots that reflect the existing development and use of land. The Planning Commission considered the subject application at a meeting of the Planning Commission on Thursday, December 18, at 7:00 p.m., in the City Council Chamber, 225 W. Second Street.

The subject property currently contains Claremont Colleges buildings including the Administrative Campus Center, The Honnold Library, and the Tranquada Student Services Center. The subject site has a General Plan designation of Institutional and an underlying zoning designation of Institutional Educational. The generally rectangular-shaped, irregular site is bordered on all sides by the colleges including Scripps College to the north, Claremont Graduate University to the west, Claremont McKenna College to the east, and Pomona College to the south.

Districting Public Hearing

The City of Claremont is considering transitioning from at-large elections to by-district elections and wants the community's help drafting district boundaries. The City will hold five public hearings and four community workshops to get community feedback on district boundaries. The City's demographer will give a presentation on the districting process and the City Council will accept public comment at a public hearing at a Special City Council Meeting on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 6:30 p.m.

Inclusionary Housing Ordinance 

Notice is hereby given that the City of Claremont held a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the Claremont Municipal Code (CMC) pertaining to modification of the existing inclusionary housing ordinance.  The proposed Code amendment responds to Assembly Bill 1505 allowing cities and counties to require onsite construction of affordable housing (also called “inclusionary” housing) in connection with the development of market-rate rental residential projects. The Planning Commission recommended unanimous approval by an affirmative vote of 7-0-0-0 of the proposed draft ordinance at the regularly scheduled Planning Commission meeting held on October 2, 2018.
